Milis is a small creative business based in Waterford, Ireland. Specialising in small batch scented homeware products inspired by family and a love of baking, each item is handmade from start to finish at the kitchen table using natural, recyclable, re-usable or ethically sourced materials.
In the run up to the initial release we were brought on to create a packaging system that could be applied to seasonal releases. At this stage, Fiona had already done a few small batches for family and friends but felt the need to develop the packaging design to hold up in a retail environment. A number of items were already in place, Milis had an existing logo, a beautiful jar to work with, and an outer packaging box was already sourced and stocked.
After initial conversations it was clear that we had to get some of Fiona's warmth and personality across in the packaging. We sourced easily recyclable labels in line with the Milis brand ethos, and developed a minimal but expressive labelling system to differentiate the scents. Each product has a two tone colour palette based on the ingredients used, bold quirky typography, and also a background pattern based on the idea of candle wax droplets / the delicate flame of a candle.
