About the Client

Carters Chocolate Café, based in Waterford, Ireland.

We were engaged to launch the previously named, Lily O’Briens Chocolate Café, as Carters Chocolate Café. The café is an independent, family run business with a loyal following. A key part of the brief was to distinguish them from larger well known chains in the city.

Various businesses have stood on this site for hundreds of years. Through researching archive images of the street we discovered the opulence and charm of a different era. We were drawn to the typography, signage, and particularly the use of gold leaf and hand painted lettering. Our solution drew from these sources and interpreted it in a contemporary way, using typography, colour and materials. The paired back appearance gives greater visibility on a busy high street. We delivered a full brand identity including application to packaging, apparel, advertising, menus and signage. The café has recorded increased growth since the rebrand and are developing their own branded product range.
